Description Medal depicting the Admiral Courbet memorial. Obverse: View of the monument. On the top, a full-length figure of Admiral Amédée Courbet (1827-1885) in uniform, a female figure by his side. The pedestal stands on the deck of an armed vessel with a ram bow, on which are two nude figures. Sea horizon in distance, with the 'Courbet', battleship (right), rocky promontory (left). Legend: 'MONUMENT . ELEVE . A . LA . GLOIRE . DE . L'AMIRAL . COURBET.' Exergue: 'A . FALGUIÈRE . A . MERCIE STATS. P. PUJOL ARCH.' Reverse: Engraved on an ornamental cartouche, 'A. MERCIÉ DE L'INSTITUT.' Inscription: (above) 'CE MONUMENT ÉRIGÉ A ABBEVILLE A L'AIDE D'UNE SOUSCRIPTION NATIONALE'; (below) 'A ÉTÉ INAUGURÉ LE 17 AOUT 1890.'
