Description Medal commemorating Captain James Cook (1728-1779). Obverse: Bust of Captain Cook (right) in uniform, hair tied back in a queue. Legend: 'CAPTAIN JAMES COOK R.N. F.R.S. 1728-1779'. Reverse: HMS 'Resolution' with sails furled, starboard-quarter view, with mountainous islands in the background and two birds flying above. Inscribed below: 'CAPT.COOK FIRST WHITE MAN TO LAND IN BRITISH COLUMBIA AT NOOTKA 1778'; (below ship) 'H.M.S. RESOLUTION'.
