Biographical details HMS GLADIATOR was a second class protected cruiser of the Royal Navy, launched on 8 December 1896 at Portsmouth. She was of the Arrogant class, with a crew of 250 officers and men. She had three distinctive stacks amidships with a conspicuous bridge well forward.
Description Collection of photographs and press cuttings (including a page from The Illustrated London News 12 September 1908) relating to the disaster, letters of thanks addressed to Sir Henry Earle who carried out rescue operations, and a few documents relating to the subsequent Navy Board inquiry into the distaster.
