Description Diary kept by S Wilkes, Petty Officer, on board HMS HECLA, Jul -Sep 1822 covering the second voyage under Parry of HMS HECLA and HMS FURY in search of the North West Passage, with many details such as whale hunting; meeting 21 Inuit's with more than 40 dogs with them; Lifting HECLA out of the water when it became trapped in ice and the ship falling to the side on the ice; the finding of Amherst Island by Captain Lyon; ill crew members one with a 10 yard tapeworm after eating a bear.
