Object ID P54CAL
Description A whole plate size salted paper print, with the top left corner missing. A port quarter view of an unidentified schooner dried out with a heel to starboard, at Swansea. Her outer jib, main and mizzen sails and mizzen topsail are still set, as if drying. Another ship is upright dried out off her starboard bow, mostly obscured. In the background is Kilvey Hill. In a letter from Calvert Jones to WHF Talbot, dated 3 November 1846, he lists the 'Large Talbotype' negatives, including one that matches this description: '128. Schooner aground. Kilvey background' [BL, LA46-123]. Jones had arrived back in England from his European trip in early June 1846 to sort out the afffairs of his dead uncle. The original negative of this original print is held at the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Royal Photographic Society Collection, reference: RPS025307.
