Object details:

Object ID BHC3373
Description This lively oil painting depicts HMS Goldfinch under steam and sail in a choppy sea and under a ragged sky. Her red anti-fouling is visible as she tries to make headway through the swell. There are pale cliffs to her left and fortifications can be seen above the waves to her right. The ship is highlighted by a shaft of sunshine breaking through the clouds, which helps to dramatise her progress through the heavy seas.
