Description | A relic of Sir John Franklin's last expedition 1845-48. Two plain metal buttons with shanks. They were bought from the Inuit by the McClintock Search Expedition on 3 March 1859, near Cape Victoria, on the Boothia Peninsula. Thet were referred to by McClintock as 'a few small naval and other metal buttons', readily sold for a few needles each, also the buttons which they wore as ornaments on their dresses'. |
