Description A relic of Sir John Franklin's last expedition 1845-48. Two sledge runners (one broken in half). Found with the remains of an abandoned boat at Erebus Bay, King William Island by the Schwatka Search Expedition 1878-79. They found this site on 21 July 1878. In the years following McClintock's visit, the Inuit broke up the boat and sledge. Painted on (3) RUNNERS OF A SLEDGE FOUND LADEN WITH A BOAT BELONGING TO THE FRANKLIN EXPEDITION ON THE WEST SHORE OF KING WILLIAM ISLAND BY SEARCH PARTIES FROM 'FOX' IN 1859. BROUGHT AWAY BY LIEUT. SCHWATKA US ARMY IN 1880.
