Description Specimen of the lichen, tripe de roche with a round gilt, red velvet-covered stand, with three bun feet. The glass shade which formerly covered it is missing. A label on the base of the stand: FROM H HERTLEY !3 WIGMORE STREET LONDON.' The item is accompanied by a printed label: 'GYROPHORA HYPERBOREA OR TRIPE DE ROCHE. Grows on rocks and is abundant on the barran grounds towards the Arctic Sea near the Coppermine River, North America. When boiled it will allay hunger, but is very nauseous. In 1821, for several days, I had no other food than Tripe de Roche and scraps of leather. Geo. Back.'
