Description Obverse: A sepoy, standing on the shore, his right arm raised, waving the Union Jack, spearing with his left hand the prostrate sceptre of France, (a winged cock;) a gun (right); a fleet of five vessels in a distant harbour (left). Reverse: Within a narrow wreath of leaves; tied above and below, inscribed in Persian: 'This medal was conferred in commemoration of the bravery and accustomed fidelity exhibited by the Sepoys of the English Company in the capture of the Mauritius Islands in the year of Hegira 1226'. Legend. 'RODRIGUES VI JULY MDCCCIX. BOURBON VIII JULY AND ISLE OF FRANCE III DEC. MDCCCX'. Struck by the Honble. East India Co. for Indian presentation. Fitted with a loop and yellow ribbon.
