Object ID REL0301
Description Pasteboard excursion ticket no. 7514 of London Steam Boat Co., with a fragment of the wreck of the 'Princess Alice' carved into a small double-ended boat. The paddle-steamer 'Princes Alice' was run down in the Thames in 1878 with massive loss of life, by the 'Bywell Castle', while returning from the 'Moonlight Trip' trip to Rosherville, Gravesend, for which this is a ticket. The wooden fragment is recorded on the accompanying card slip as 'carved from wood taken from Wreck of steamer "Princess Alice". 1878' with an indecipherable signature resembling 'Ross'. A later hand, apparently one of 'Ross's' children, has noted below this: ' Pa decided not to go on trip after he had bought ticket' - a lucky escape!
Date made 1878
