Crown Copyright works may be copied and reproduced without seeking prior permission, but should include an acknowledgment of the source and the copyright status. Please refer to the Guidance Note published by Her Majesty’s Stationery Office for more details.
Where the NMM has the right to do so, and where indicated, it has also made its collection records and images available for non commercial reuse under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-Non-Commercial-ShareAlike (CC BY-NC-SA) licence http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/. Images must always credit ‘National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, London’ and link to the original record on the NMM website. This licence requires any adaptations of NMM collections works to be re-licensed under the same licence terms.
Records that are available under this licence will be clearly marked with the CC logo.
Please contact the Picture Library if you would like to use the NMM’s collection records and images under different conditions.
No known copyright restrictions
The NMM joined The Commons on Flickr on 17 September 2008, inviting the public to help describe a selection of our historic photographs. All images on The Commons are marked as ‘no known copyright restrictions’. This means that the NMM is unaware of any current copyright restrictions on the specific images which it has supplied to The Commons, either because the NMM owns the copyright, or the term of copyright has expired, or because no evidence has been found that copyright restrictions apply.
Please visit our Contact page for details of how to make any enquiries or provide feedback.
